Ranch Watch
Program Overview
The Ranch Watch Program is a valuable aid to rural communities and the effort to control crime. Awareness and involvement are the key elements, and the continual exchange of information between the Sheriff's Department and area ranchers is vital.

Deputies' Responsibilities

The deputies will meet with ranchers and set up the program, continue to meet with them at least once a month, help them apply identification stickers to property, disseminate information from the Sheriff's Department, and educate ranchers in the following areas:
  • Identify suspicious behavior
  • What to look for
  • How to report a crime
  • Explain what the rancher can do
  • Explain the rights of the rancher to protect his property

Records
Deputies will make available to ranches Owner Applied Numbers (OAN) to be attached to equipment to assist in identification. Ranchers will maintain an accurate record of inventory at their ranches to be referenced to in case of theft or destruction of property. The OAN should contain the following:
  • WY - Wyoming
  • 23 - Sublette County designation
  • JNC - First, middle, and last initials or any combination
  • 0000 - Last four digits in rancher's social security number

The example of the above OAN would be WY23JNC0000, this would be applied to the rancher's property with an engraver supplied by the Sheriff's Department. For more information, call the sheriff's Office at (307) 367-4378 or (307) 276-5448.
